Three Circus artists and a Shadow Projection performance take over the Georgetown Steam Plant in the Circus of Steam & Shadows: Paranormal Archives.
The Georgetown Steam Plant opens its doors once again this Halloween season. This time, you will join Oroki Corp Anomaly Study and record observations for our Paranormal Archives. Choose a shift and follow your designated Oroki Corp guide as you witness entities arise from light and shadow!
Circus arts has its place in theater as a medium for storytelling. Oroki Productions was established to give voices to our artists through this medium that gives us freedom, community, and a way to bring representation into performance art spaces.

John Hollenbeck is a drummer and composer who invokes the image of the “mythical hydra” to describe his seemingly multi-limbed, highly dynamic, and adventurous artistry. His music, often noted as being uncategorizable, is always fresh and forward-leaning. He is a prolific composer and has performed in many ensembles including his longest-running ensemble the Claudia Quintet as well as the John Hollenbeck Large Ensemble. For this concert with Earshot Jazz he brings together his latest band called GEORGE which includes Anna Webber (tenor sax, flute), Sarah Rossy (vocals, keyboard), and Chiquita Magic (voice, keyboard). Nate Chinen writes that “the group combines strategies from experimental jazz, ambient electronics, chamber music and more.” Hollenbeck’s work has been Grammy nominated six times and he has received many prestigious awards such as a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Doris Duke Performing Artist Award among others. Hollenbeck received a degree in percussion and jazz composition from the Eastman School of Music and his two greatest mentors were Bob Brookmeyer and Merdith Monk. Hollenbeck has since collaborated with Theo Bleckmann, Gary Versace, Kurt Elling, Chris Speed, and Ben Monder among others.

Using an improvised language of disintegration, How does it feel to look at nothing is an embodied pre-origin story of a Deity of Nothingness. An opera of the elemental, of pre-deities, and illusions of containment, this interdisciplinary performance emerges through a story of transitional states. Composer-performers, multi-instrumentalists, and vocalists Holland Andrews and yuniya edi kwon co-create this work of composition, improvisation, dance, and ritual. Grounded in Holland and yuniya’s shared spiritual lineages and lives as partners, the opera explores the forces and conditions that compel life’s emergence, and the spiritual act of meaning-making during epochs of decay.

Earshot Jazz Festival Resident Artist Sidney Hauser has an artistic voice that combines technical precision with adventurous, fusion-leaning energy. Hauser plays lead alto for Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, has performed with the Seattle Women’s Jazz Orchestra, the Afro-Latin funk collective The New Triumph, and numerous ensembles throughout the Pacific Northwest. In 2017, Hauser became the first full-time female member of the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, where she now plays lead alto. She has also performed with the Seattle Women’s Jazz Orchestra, the Afro-Latin funk collective The New Triumph, and numerous ensembles throughout the Pacific Northwest. Over the course of her career, Hauser has shared the stage with acclaimed artists including Joshua Redman, Maria Schneider, Christian McBride, Branford Marsalis, Tia Fuller, Ben Wendel, and Anat Cohen. Hauser’s new dreampop fusion project, Other Kinds, features Nik Singleton of Midnight High (vocals), Dylan Hayes (keys, synth), Adam Kessler (drums), and Trevor Ford (bass).
