Clube do Choro Cascadia hosts Combo Choro (Port Townsend) and Choro Tomorrow (Olympia), for the 2nd night of the Seattle Choro Festival. These groups bring their interpretations of choro music from far off Washington State locales.
Combo ChoroCombo Choro plays acoustic Brazilian music in Port Townsend, WA. The core group is Al Bergstein on mandolin, Julian Catford guitar, Teresa Catford on percussion. John Green joins on bass.CHORO TOMORROW is a group of very talented musicians who play Brazilian music -- focusing on the beautiful and complex music that is Choro.Their history stretches back over 10 years of playing this instrumental Brazilian popular music genre which originated in 19th century Rio de Janeiro. Before jazz, before Samba and Bossa Nova, before even Stravinsky had been born, musicians in 19th century Rio were testing their virtuosity playing Choro tunes.CHORO TOMORROW brings this marvelous music to the stage and you. It is not an exaggeration to say Choro is one vast compendium of cerebral riffs, dueling instruments, and idiosyncratic talents.https://chorotomorrow.com/home
Kicking off the evening is flutist, composer, improviser, artist, and educator Leanna Keith. Their work focuses on spontaneous sound creation, timbre-shifting, the mixed-race experience, queer theory, and the breaking of performer/audience boundaries. Keith co-directs the improvisation-centered ensemble Kin of the Moon. Tonight, they celebrate their third album release, No Bullshit (2026, Strange Moon Records) with Marina Albero (piano, dulcimer), Elias Chanteloup (taiko), and John-Carlos Perea (bass, cedar flutes). Now residing in New York, rising star trumpeter/composer Jun Iida has strong ties to the West Coast from his time in Los Angeles and Seattle. Raised in Pittsburgh by Japanese immigrant parents — his mother played the koto — Iida’s many urban and musical influences infuse his music with a unique voice of hard bop, hip-hop, soul, and cinematic Japanese melody. His new album Bellflower (2026, Origin Records) “ turns memory, migration and jazz tradition into something strikingly modern” (Paris-Move).

October 16 - November 8, 2026
Neha (नेहा) fears she has failed to pass her language and culture down to her seventeen-year-old son, Neel (नील). A summer trip to visit colleges could be Neha's last chance, if only she can get Neel to visit the historic Hope Diamond and witness a piece of Indian history for himself. नेहा & Neel (Neha and Neel | नेहा और नील) Neha and Neel is a road trip comedy about how our families and our values evolve from one generation to the next.
In 1902 New York, anything seemed possible. RAGTIME is a uniquely compelling exploration of America at the turn of the 20th century, weaving together three unforgettable stories: a daring Harlem pianist, a determined Jewish immigrant, and an affluent society woman. Each navigates a changing world, united by courage, compassion, and belief in the promise of the future.
With its Tony Award-winning score blending ragtime, blues, jazz, and show tunes, RAGTIME has been hailed by TIME Magazine as “a triumph for the stage,” and by the International Herald Tribune as “the best musical in twenty years.”
In a production marking our nation’s 250th birthday, this beloved epic musical bursts onto the Village stage, painting a vivid portrait of the people who built this country with hope for a brighter tomorrow.
Using an improvised language of disintegration, How does it feel to look at nothing is an embodied pre-origin story of a Deity of Nothingness. An opera of the elemental, of pre-deities, and illusions of containment, this interdisciplinary performance emerges through a story of transitional states. Composer-performers, multi-instrumentalists, and vocalists Holland Andrews and yuniya edi kwon co-create this work of composition, improvisation, dance, and ritual. Grounded in Holland and yuniya’s shared spiritual lineages and lives as partners, the opera explores the forces and conditions that compel life’s emergence, and the spiritual act of meaning-making during epochs of decay.
Winner of the 1938 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Thornton Wilder’s masterpiece has stood as a timeless pillar of the American stage. Poetic, poignant, and profoundly human, this groundbreaking play invites us to slow down, look closer, and cherish the fleeting beauty of life.
Pulitzer Prize winner Martyna Majok’s Sanctuary City asks the question: In a nation built on the promise of opportunity, how do we determine who benefits? Where once belonging was measured by front‑porch waves and neighborhood gatherings, today it hinges on paperwork and the threat of separation – or possibly far worse.
