Nancy stopped by our Seattle studios for a Live Studio Session to promote her new album “Here & Now.” Joining her was the 200 Trio with Cole Schuster on guitar, Greg Feingold on bass and Max Holmberg on drums and Saxophonist Alex Dugdale.

Erickson’s delightful warm and wise voice filled our studios as she began singing her own composition ‘Let Love Begin.’  The song inspired by a budding relationship where there was some reluctance from the other party, the song actually worked to win her partner over.

She said her writing process involved lyrics first and then a melody and a basic outline for the chords.  She worked with her pianist Darin Clendenin to round out the songs.

Fred Rogers wrote the next tune from the PBS show Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.  Titled ‘It’s You I Like’ is a lovely and poignant tune with a sweet lyric and melody. The song can also be found on her new release.  It included a swinging solo from saxophonist Alex Dugdale.

Drummer Max said his favorite thing about jazz was the ever-changing nature of it, Alex said it’s the different people, Greg seconded that and Cole said it was the universal appeal of jazz that spoke to him. Erickson said that she agreed it’s the varied interpretations of jazz that keeps her interested.

The final tune the group played was Fats Waller’s ‘Honeysuckle Rose’, which lent itself well to the interpretation aspect of jazz that the group mentioned.
