Brazilian music icon Sergio Mendes brings his joyous music to Seattle's Jazz Alley Jan. 27-30. Check out Robin Lloyd's interview with Mendes at the "Listen" button above, and tune in for more of his music this week on Saturday's Jazz Caliente.

The man of many hats and just as many musical surprises, Sergio Mendes has waited two years to tour on his latest album, In the Key of Joy. The tour finally begins at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley next week.

We highly recommend the "In the Key of Joy" documentary film, available for streaming from iTunes and Peacock.

Trumpeter Gabriel Alegria's Afro-Peruvian Sextet got recognition from four prominent "Best of 2021" lists for its project Social Distancing, a collection of original compositions expressing the emotional roller coaster of life during the COVID-19 pandemic.

NPR Music Staff Picks, The New York Music Daily, The New York City Jazz Record and Cadence Magazine all included "Social Distancing" on their year-end listings of the best recorded music. We'll hear some of that music on Jazz Caliente this week.
