The Tacoma Dome will be home to a mass COVID vaccination clinic for six weeks.

Pierce County is getting a daily mass COVID vaccination site.

The Tacoma Dome will host a daily vaccine clinic beginning April 27. It will operate from noon to 8 p.m. every day, except holidays, for six weeks. There will be drive-thru and walk-up options, and language assistance will be available.

Pierce County’s Department of Emergency Management is spearheading the effort.

“We want to beat this virus as quickly as possible, and now our residents have a convenient and easy way to get vaccinated,” said County Executive Bruce Dammeier. “I encourage everyone to make an appointment at the Tacoma Dome as soon as possible so they protect themselves, their loved ones and our community.”

The county says the goal is to vaccinate at least 1,170 people each day and distribute an estimated 34,000 doses to residents. Anyone 16 and older is eligible to receive the vaccine, but 16- and 17-year-olds must attend with a parent or guardian.

During the first three weeks at the Tacoma Dome, only first-dose vaccinations will be offered. The second dose will be scheduled when attendees are getting their first dose.

Pierce County and the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department will continue to operate vaccination sites in other parts of the county while at the Tacoma Dome.

Tacoma Dome management is looking forward to hosting this large-scale vaccination effort.

“We are grateful that the Tacoma Dome has been called to serve the community in this capacity,” said Kim Bedier, the director of Tacoma Venues & Events. “We know that every vaccine brings us one step closer to safely welcoming back guests en masse for concerts and events.”

The news also comes on the Tacoma Dome’s 38th birthday. The landmark – one of the largest wooden-domed venues in the world – opened its doors on April 21, 1983.
