Joe Kent, left at podium, a Trump-endorsed Republican is challenging U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Wash., right, for her seat in Washington's 3rd Congressional District.

It's been week since the Washington primarily elections and officials are still methodically counting votes.

With 40,000 ballots to go, Olympia Correspondent Austin Jenkins joined KNKX Morning Edition host Kirsten Kendrick to talk key races, including the contest for Washington Secretary of State and Joe Kent's current lead over Jaime Herrera Beutler for the state's 3rd Congressional District.

On Tuesday, August 9, Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler conceded her race in Washington state's top two primary for the 3rd Congressional District. The Associated Press has said the race for the second candidate to advance in the primary is still too early to call as it estimates about 10,000 votes are left to be counted.

Nonpartisan candidate Julie Anderson advances to November general election in Washington's secretary of state race. Until Democratic state Sen. Steve Hobbs was appointed as Washington’s secretary of state last November, Republicans had a hold on the office for 56 years. Now, they've been shut out of the general election. Hobbs and Anderson will advance to the November ballot.
