Anniversary Toast: Stein Gifts Wife Of 26 Years With An Upgraded Home Appliance

She was thrilled to receive this. I could tell by her tears.

On Aug. 29, The Lovely and Talented Cheryl DeGroot and I celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary.  In the U.S. there's no traditional gift for that anniversary.  So I declared the 26th to be the Upgraded Home Appliance Anniversary.

I got her a toaster.

In other countries, the 26th anniversary gift is traditionally jade, but who among us has time in our busy lives to look for a jade toaster?  Besides, DeGroot was thrilled to get this baby.  I could tell by her exclamation of surprise, which I recorded with a hidden microphone.  Hear it on this week's show.

Nancy Leson says the most romantic anniversary gift she ever got was also kitchen-related.  It was their first anniversary and to celebrate, they'd booked  aroom at the Olympic Four Seasons.  But that wasn't the most romantic part.  "As an anniversary gift to ourselves we bought the seven quart, the biggest Le Cruset.  And he schlepped that thing many blocks to the hotel."
