Set in the East Village of New York City, during the previous pandemic, Rent is about falling in love, finding your voice and living for today. Based loosely on Puccini’s La Boheme, Jonathan Larson’s play follows a year in the life of a group of young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Rent has become a pop cultural phenomenon, with songs that rock and a story that shaped a generation of audiences and taught us all to measure our life in love.

HOW TO RESERVE TICKETS: Those interested in attending must either text or email the organizer/venue's owner with their request to attend, name and how many in their party would like to attend. zylius@comcast.net or 360-918-3652. The organizer will respond to acknowledge that the requester has a spot reserved and the address of the event, or a message that regrettably the event is sold out. Guests are invited to bring beer, wine or other non-alcoholic drinks and/or appetizers to share. The host will provide some non-alcoholic drinks and snacks. Tickets are to be paid for at the door, cash please. All proceeds go to Ben and Dylan.

Ben, bassist, and Dylan, pianist will delight and entertain us with their exquisite playing of standards and fabulous music they've composed. They probably are best known to many as members of the wonderful, award-winning band, Meridian Odyssey (Their sophomore release, Earthshine, won the Northwest Recording of the Year award at Earshot Jazz’s 2022 Golden Ear Awards), though they have played in Olympia and the NW with several other bands/configurations. They are two of the most talented, exciting and dedicated jazz performers playing today.

Dylan has performed alongside some of jazz’s top musicians, including Benny Benack III, Barry Stephenson, Jay Thomas, Johnaye Kendrick, Thomas Marriott, Christopher Brown, and Chris Amberger. Additionally, the legendary composer Jim Knapp entrusted him with the Jim Knapp Orchestra book and to lead the orchestra, and is a member of several other bands playing in the NW, including his Dylan Hayes Trio.

Ben, now living in NYC, has learned from such jazz legends as Ron Carter and Buster Williams. He has appeared at many distinguished festivals and venues, such as Dizzy’s Club, The Django, The Kennedy Center, The Grammys After-Party and the Newport Jazz Festival. Ben has shared the stage with world-renowned artists the likes of Stefon Harris, Sullivan Fortner, Geoffrey Keezer, Gerald Clayton, Dave Liebman, Joey Alexander, and Matt Wilson and is co-leader of the wonderful NYC-based band FRIENDSHIP.

Guests are asked to pay for the tickets with cash at the door at the time of the concert.

The Normandy Park Arts Commission has worked throughout the winter and spring to create an exciting summer music schedule for the annual ‘Music in the Park’ concert series! Every Sunday in July and August at Marvista Park, the City is hosting free concerts starting at 5:00 pm. These concerts are open to the public and feature live music and a theater performance. The summer will culminate with a special jazz music finale in late August featuring This finale will offer an entire afternoon of music with three bands. Bring a picnic blanket or lawn chair and enjoy this fantastic summer lineup in 2025

June 20 - August 1, 2025 Summer Festival 2025 The World’s Largest Chamber Music Party returns!

This five-week celebration of extraordinary music and first-rate artists presents 12 mainstage concerts at Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Hall, each including a free pre-concert recital; two outdoor concerts in idyllic parks in Seattle and Bellevue; 18 concerts aboard The Concert Truck; the live music and cooking event Tasting Notes; an exciting variety of community and education programs, and for those who can’t attend in person, the return of our live streaming and on-demand, state-of-the-art Virtual Concert Hall.

Among the renowned artists participating this year are violinists James Ehnes, Elena Urioste and Noah Bendix-Balgley; pianists Yulianna Avdeeva and Inon Barnatan; and cellists Bion Tsang and Sterling Elliott. Highlights include masterpieces by Beethoven, Brahms, Fanny Mendelssohn, Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, and Tchaikovsky; music by important 20th-century composers, such as Mieczysław Weinberg, Rebecca Clarke and Amy Beach; and a selection of lesser-known works handpicked for the festival, including neglected pieces by Mel Bonis, Charlotte Sohy, and Moritz Moszkowski.
