Jazz Group of the Year nominee The Lao Tizer Band, make their return to Dimitriou's Jazz Alley for 2-nights of performances in support of their new album & video release AMPLIFY.
The new release is a major evolution for the group and includes 5 new original vocals and 4 new original instrumentals. The project was recorded and filmed LIVE at legendary EastWest Studios in Hollywood, accompanied by a simultaneous seven-camera video production and an extraordinary lineup of musicians.
Joining pianist, keyboardist, bandleader and former Best New Jazz Artist nominee, Lao Tizer are GRAMMY-winning sax legend, Eric Marienthal (The Rippingtons, Chick Corea Elektric Band), platinum-selling American Idol star vocalist, Elliott Yamin, GRAMMY-winning drum phenom, Gene Coye (Hiromi's Sonicwonder, Terence Blanchard), and Rolling Stone 2022 Bassist of the Year nominee, Anthony Crawford (Erykah Badu, Jeff Lorber).

Dave Camwell is an internationally recognized jazz saxophonist, educator, and clinician whose performances have taken him throughout North American and Europe. Kim Maguire is a mainstay of the Seattle vocal jazz scene. Critical Mass Big Band stands as a cornerstone in the contemporary jazz scene of Seattle, captivating audiences with its electrifying performances.
There’s nothing quite like hearing a full big band live, especially in a room like The Royal Room. With great musicians, terrific arrangements, and Dave Camwell and Kim Maguire joining the band for this performance, October 27 has all the ingredients for a terrific evening.
The Royal Room is located in Columbia City and is easily accessible by Link Light Rail, making this an especially convenient night out for Seattle-area residents.

Saxophonist Dave Camwell and Vocalist Kim Maguire join Critical Mass Big Band for a night of music at The Royal Room.
Dave Camwell is equally at home playing classical music—including cutting-edge modern compositions, improvising on jazz standards in small groups, and serving as guest soloist with big bands. He has received numerous awards for his playing, particularly in the modern classical arena, and has fronted prestigious big bands and orchestras. He currently serves as Director of Jazz Studies and Professor of Music at Troy University in Alabama. He’s also a prolific writer and arranger, with more than thirty publications available through Jeanne, Universal Edition, Dorn, and UNC Jazz Press. Fanfare Magazine praised his playing as “evident virtuosity to be relished.”
Kim Maguire has been a professional performer, arranger, educator, director, and producer for the past 30 years. A 2017 Seattle/Kobe Female Jazz Vocalist finalist, Kim is a mainstay of the Seattle vocal jazz scene with a strong foothold in the classical crossover genre. Described as a “stunning singer” with an authentic and charismatic presence, her style is defined by joyful authenticity, highly developed technical skill, and a distinctive, silky-smooth vocal texture. A lifelong musician, she began performing in childhood alongside her mother, a professional classical singer and pianist.
Critical Mass Big Band stands as a cornerstone in the contemporary jazz scene of Seattle. For more than 25 years, this premier jazz ensemble has been captivating audiences with its electrifying performances. The 18-piece ensemble features an impressive lineup of five saxophones, four trombones, five trumpets, piano, guitar, bass, and drums.

Styled by the Streets: Black Women in Hip-Hop Fashion explores how Black women transform Hip-Hop fashion into a cultural and political force, transcending the boundaries of music to influence global style, self-expression, and identity. From streetwear to couture, hair to jewelry, and iconic photography, the exhibition showcases style as a powerful expression of Black womanhood across 30 unique artifacts. Layered in late 1990s and early 2000s denim, holographic finishes, and Y2K palettes, the gallery highlights the artists and cultural creators who bring these iconic looks to life—centering the women visionaries whose creativity reshapes Black and Hip-Hop communities through storytelling, authorship, and legacy.
Never Turn Back: Echoes of African American Music unveils the profound legacy of Gospel, Blues, Jazz, and Soul artists who shaped the soundscape of American culture and used their music as instruments of resistance, identity, and representation.
Gospel, Blues, Jazz, and Soul embody the profound influence of African American music on culture and history. From the spiritual foundations and transformative movements of Gospel hymns to the revolutionary improvisations of Jazz, the Blues’ Southern roots rising from the Mississippi Delta, and Soul’s powerful amplification of the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements, these genres have defined the unique sound and undying spirit of a nation that continues to echo through contemporary Black music today.
This is a permanent exhibition. Since time immemorial, Tribal nations have existed in this place we call Washington. This Is Native Land invites visitors to understand Washington State through the lived experiences and voices of its Native people.
Tribal nations are sovereign nations. Today, Native history, culture, and community thrive in our state. Through everyday acts of sovereignty – big and small – Indigenous peoples demonstrate they are still here, they have persevered, and they will always be here.
This Is Native Land is guided by three teachings:We are of the land and watersWith knowledge comes responsibilitySovereignty protects people, lands, and waters
These teachings are shared through multimedia, artwork, and interactive objects designed for guest engagement. They represent a contemporary continuation of Tribal stories and traditions.
Over 100 Native contributors from more than 60 Tribes shaped the exhibition’s stories and content. We thank the Native Advisory Committee and all community participants for their contributions.

A beautiful way to experience the upper Snoqualmie Valley. Join the Northwest Railway Museum for Wine Train excursions featuring Snoqualmie Valley wineries, food, and scenic views! The 2.5-3 hour program includes wine tastings at the Snoqualmie Depot and the Train Shed Exhibit Hall.
