New releases and special reissues specifically for Record Store Day include pianist Ahmad Jamal recorded in Seattle in the 1960s, Arturo Sandoval and Paquito D'Rivera's 1991 album "Reunion," and some classic blues.

Oscar Peterson spent most of his musical career in the U. S., but remained proud of his Black Canadian heritage. On August 15, the Royal Canadian Mint issued a commemorative coin in his honor, coinciding with the late musician's 97th birthday.

Mentored by modern jazz icon and drummer Elvin Jones, Alvin Queen went from shining shoes to working with jazz, blues and gospel greats before joining Oscar Peterson's last trio.

The streaming platform Hulu will add the film "Oscar Peterson: Black + White" on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
