Some Old Friends And New Ones On The First Jazz Northwest Of The New Year

Courtesy of Takao Fujiyoka

With our first show of the new year, we're sharing some of our favorite albums from 2017 and debuting some new releases.  The new album by Canadian saxophonist, PJ Perry who's been active in Vancouver, Toronto, New York and since 1975, he's called Edmonton, Alberta home.  His latest release, recorded live at the Yardbird Suite in Edmonton, features great sound and fleet mastery.  Also new is Cory Weeds & Jeff Hamilton Trio's release Dreamsville. Finally, we will listen to Seattle drummer Phil Pariot's latest release Creekside.

Among our Northwest favorites from last year are albums by the Full Circle Jazz Ensemble, Bill Anschell, Jared Hall and the Wynton Kelly Trio. We will also take a listen to a Wes Montgomery broadcast in Seattle from 1996. Grammy-nominated Nancy King and Randy Porter Trio from Portland are also featured.
