KNKX presents our next virtual School of Jazz studio session with the Tritone Jazz Trio from Bellarmine Preparatory School in Tacoma and their mentor, saxophonist Tracy Knoop. This is a free live streamed Zoom event on May 13 at 7 p.m.  REGISTER HERE. Host Abe Beeson will talk with the musicians in between music sets. The musicians will be performing together at Bellarmine with safety protocols in place (pre-screening check, masked and socially distanced). The Tritone Jazz Trio is Henry Jacobson on keys, Aidan Moore on bass, and Ian McKain-Pitts on drums. Aidan and Ian teamed up for KNKX’s student DJ feature in October 2020. Read more about them and listen here.

Over the past eight years, Bellarmine’s jazz program has gone from one big band class to two full big bands. Casey Whitson, Director of Music and Department Chair at Bellarmine, gives a big shout-out to the school’s administration for its support of the music program in general and specifically the jazz program, which has safely resumed live rehearsals during the pandemic.  The Tritone Jazz Trio’s mentor, saxophonist Tracy Knoop, is the Jazz Orchestra Director at the University of Puget Sound and one of the best-known jazz artists and teachers in the region.  The Northwest native and Berklee School of Music graduate has performed with the world-famous Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and the Seattle Symphony, and jazz greats like Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Buddy Rich, and Mel Torme.

KNKX is proud of our commitment to providing mentorship and performance opportunities to Western Washington school music programs, as well as strengthening our connection to musicians in the community. When you support KNKX, you’re helping ensure that we can continue to bring you virtual events with talented young musicians like Bellarmine Prep’s Tritone Jazz Trio through our School of Jazz program--now in its 15th year. Thanks to our School of Jazz sponsors, Alaska Airlines and BECU.
