History records the nation's first diner as a horse-drawn lunch wagon in 1870s Providence, R.I.
Later, in the early 20th century the Worcester Lunch Car Co. began manufacturing and shipping the pre-fab restaurants all over the country. Other companies followed and an institution was born.
