Seattle-based DAIPANbutoh Collective presents its annual festival on November 18 and 19, 2022. The Seattle Butoh Festival 2022: Emergence features new and re-mounted works by all 7 DAIPAN members: Sheri Brown, Dhyana Garcia, Kaoru Okumura, Helen Thorsen, Joan Laage, Alycia Scott Zollinger and Robyn Bjornson. Each program has the work of three choreographers, several of whom will be accompanied by live music. Founded in 2010, DAIPAN is known for supporting the local butoh community and bringing national and international artists from abroad and offering a weekly series of butoh classes. Arising out of the chaos and turmoil of Post WWII Japan, butoh started spreading to the west in the 1970s and is now a global performance genre.
