As cultures collided and nerves frayed, this unlikely international sleepover transformed into a powerful celebration of connection and resilience.

Styled by the Streets: Black Women in Hip-Hop Fashion explores how Black women transform Hip-Hop fashion into a cultural and political force, transcending the boundaries of music to influence global style, self-expression, and identity. From streetwear to couture, hair to jewelry, and iconic photography, the exhibition showcases style as a powerful expression of Black womanhood across 30 unique artifacts. Layered in late 1990s and early 2000s denim, holographic finishes, and Y2K palettes, the gallery highlights the artists and cultural creators who bring these iconic looks to life—centering the women visionaries whose creativity reshapes Black and Hip-Hop communities through storytelling, authorship, and legacy.
This is a permanent exhibition. Since time immemorial, Tribal nations have existed in this place we call Washington. This Is Native Land invites visitors to understand Washington State through the lived experiences and voices of its Native people.
Tribal nations are sovereign nations. Today, Native history, culture, and community thrive in our state. Through everyday acts of sovereignty – big and small – Indigenous peoples demonstrate they are still here, they have persevered, and they will always be here.
This Is Native Land is guided by three teachings:We are of the land and watersWith knowledge comes responsibilitySovereignty protects people, lands, and waters
These teachings are shared through multimedia, artwork, and interactive objects designed for guest engagement. They represent a contemporary continuation of Tribal stories and traditions.
Over 100 Native contributors from more than 60 Tribes shaped the exhibition’s stories and content. We thank the Native Advisory Committee and all community participants for their contributions.
Never Turn Back: Echoes of African American Music unveils the profound legacy of Gospel, Blues, Jazz, and Soul artists who shaped the soundscape of American culture and used their music as instruments of resistance, identity, and representation.
Gospel, Blues, Jazz, and Soul embody the profound influence of African American music on culture and history. From the spiritual foundations and transformative movements of Gospel hymns to the revolutionary improvisations of Jazz, the Blues’ Southern roots rising from the Mississippi Delta, and Soul’s powerful amplification of the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements, these genres have defined the unique sound and undying spirit of a nation that continues to echo through contemporary Black music today.
Engage in mindful movement, joyful dancing and the creation of an original piece of choreography in this 9 week committed series. Participants will explore the balance of freedom and form, repetitive therapeutic movement and engaging in collaborative choreography. The focus is on expressive dance, modified to be accessible for all participants. The final session includes a public performance of the work created.

Celebrated dance-theater artist David Roussève marks the 40th anniversary of his company REALITY with his most intimate work yet. Part autobiography and part retrospective, Becoming Daddy AF is the unforgettable self-portrait of a life lived in motion. With grit and wild humor, Roussève weaves generational tales to trace lineages of ancestry, artistry and cunning in his first-hand telling of the life of a queer, African American man born in the 1950s and the histories his body holds. Through a vibrant collage of evocative archival imagery, propulsive sound, fluid gestural movement and powerfully embodied storytelling, Becoming Daddy AF charts 600 years of family genealogy with four decades of unforgettable dancemaking from the man The Washington Post described as “one of modern dance’s great stage personalities.”
As Roussève journeys across decades and continents—from ancestral roots in Portugal in the 1400s to downtown dance venues in the 1980s, from Houston’s third Ward to the halls of Princeton, from heart-stopping first glances to heart-rending loss—his exuberant and expressive dancing conveys the knowledge of his sixty-plus years while offering an unflinching vulnerability. Becoming Daddy AF invokes the joy, humor, messiness and beauty of lives forged in survival to conjure a heartfelt tribute to the transformational power of love, and to those who bravely, relentlessly seek it.
Born out of relentless exploration of rhythm and sonic textures, BEAT MUSIC pulses with an electrifying fusion of jazz, electronic, and experimental sounds, captivating audiences worldwide with its dynamic and innovative performances. Led by the visionary drummer and composer Mark Guiliana, this ensemble pushes the boundaries of contemporary music, creating a sonic journey that defies categorization.
In his forthcoming release Beat Music 2.0, Guiliana’s compositional voice is on full display alongside the energetic and precise grooves that define his singular approach. In an age increasingly shaped by automation, BEAT MUSIC 2.0 keeps its focus on human connection and collaboration.
