Saturday, August 5 is International Blues Day, a celebration of the rich history and vibrant culture of blues music. It’s a great time to get out and enjoy performances from some of the most talented musicians from around the world—and our own backyard. Get ready to tap your feet and groove to the rhythm of the blues!

Here is a sampling of regional blues events on International Blues Day:

Mount Baker Rhythm & Blues Festival – Birch Bay in Blaine, WA
11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Featuring Hamilton Loomis, Chris Eger Band, Bobby Patterson Band, Cory Vincent and the Electric Band.

Big Thief & Lucinda Williams - Marymoor Amphitheater, Redmond, WA
7 p.m.

Regina Spektor – Chateau Ste. Michelle, Woodinville, WA
August 5, 7 p.m.

Lisa Fischer/Ranky Tanky Together – Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley, Seattle, WA
August 5, 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. (they are in town beginning August 3)
Vocalist Lisa Fischer was featured in the 2013 Oscar-winning documentary, Twenty Feet From Stardom. After four decades of background vocals for icons like Luther Vandross, The Rolling Stones, Chaka Khan, and Tina Turner and others, she's taking center stage. She'll join Ranky Tanky (a Gullah phrase for "get funky") who hail from South Carolina, fresh from their 2023 Grammy Award for Best Regioal Roots Music Album. Ranky Tanky have established themselves as passionate global ambassadors for their local culture and community, helping to faithfully preserve the traditions originated by African Americans in the coastal South during slavery that are kept alive through the present day.

Port Townsend Acoustic Blues Showcase
McCurdy Pavilion at Fort Worden State Park, Port Townsend, WA

The lineup, curated by and including Acoustic Blues Festival Artistic Director Jontavious Willis, showcases over 20 performers in the blues and gospel tradition from around the country and Northwest.

Blues in the Clubs is a movable feast of great music in various Fort Worden venues, with each venue operating on a first-come, first served basis. Your wristband is an all-access pass.
