Mount Si Jazz Students 'Can't Wait To See What Comes Next' At Essentially Ellington

Members of the Mount Si High School jazz band are competing in this year's Essentially Ellington Festival

Three area high schools are competing in the Essentially Ellington festival and competition in New York City this weekend: Mountlake Terrace, Edmonds-Woodway and Mount Si.

Greta Chappell is a senior and plays piano for Mount Si’s jazz band. She says for her jazz is more than just music.

"To me, jazz promotes emotion," Chappel said. "And I’ve never felt a wider spectrum of emotion than when I’m playing, or listening to, or learning about jazz. This will be my first time attending Essentially Ellington in New York City. I know that this will be a trip that I remember for the rest of my life.”

The Mount Si jazz band traveled from Seattle to New York City Wednesday.
