Anton Schwartz along with Inga Swearingen and Chuck Deardorf stopped by the KPLU for a quick Studio Session

It’s not every day that you come across a jazz trio consisting of a saxophonist, a bassist and a vocalist.  But that’s what we have with Anton Schwartz (sax), Chuck Deardorf (bass) and IngaSwearingen (vocals).  When this interesting configuration of musicians came to KPLU for a live studio session, we knew we were going to hear something new.  And indeed we did.

The trio began with a new arrangement of ‘Before The Journey,’ from Inga’s 2009 release, First Rain.  This was followed by the group’s take on Marc Johnson’s composition, ‘Samurai Hee-Haw.’  They ended their set with jazz renditions of ‘Black Is The Color Of My True Love’s Hair’ and ‘On The Sunny Side Of The Street.’  Between songs, the band talked with host Abe Beeson about how this unique trio got together and where they want it to go.

Setlist:

  1. Before the Journey
  2. Samurai Hee Haw
  3. Black Is the Color of My True Love's Hair
  4. On the Sunny Side of the Street (Anton/Inga duet)
