In 2011, Concord Music Group released a CD and DVD called Ninety Miles, documenting a trip to Cuba by American jazz musicians Stefon Harris, David Sánchez and Christian Scott.
The package included studio recordings made by the Americans with Cuban musicians, and a "sneak peek" DVD of a forthcoming documentary about the week they spent together in Havana, with footage of some of their live performances.
The album was my introduction to Cuban pianists/composers Rember Duharte and Harold López-Nussa, and I'm eternally grateful for that. The music is fresh and exciting.
But far as I can tell, the promised 62-minute full documentary film was never released.
Listen for "E'cha" from the Ninety Miles project CD this week on Saturday's Jazz Caliente. In the meantime, enjoy this preview of the mystery documentary:
Jazz Caliente airs Saturdays at 5:00 p.m. The show is hosted by Robin Lloyd and produced by KNKX Public Radio.
