Nance and Mac's Korean Jindo, Doug, dining out on his second adoptiversary

Flame away, but I'm just not a dog person. It's cats for me. They're the superior animal anyway, as our cats would tell you if they could just be bothered.

It's the opposite at Chez Leson, which Nancy and husband Mac share with Doug, a Korean Jindo and Mya-Kai, a Shiba Inu. Nance reports that big bad Doug is terrified of Instant Pots. I am too, but that's for another episode.

This week, Nance and I discuss the feeding and relative merits of cats vs. dogs, Mac's morning dog ritual, and my classical music debut with KitchenAid mixer.

Nancy claims her animals are the best fed in three counties, but she and her husband don't make it easy for them. When Mac breakfasts the dogs he likes to “build enthusiasm,” as he calls it. Nance says that "He...takes...his...time while our big dog sits quietly drooling on the floor and the little dog throws herself up against the cabinet, screeches, freaks out.”

Mac "building enthusiasm."

If I tried that with our cats they'd do something unspeakable in my headphones. During the Great Quarantine I've been doing my music show from home. Here's our new addition, Duke (formerly Speed), breaking into showbiz in my high-tech home studio.

Just a cat with a crazy dream.

Nancy says her big dog is afraid of the beeps her Instant Pot emits. If you know how to disable that sound, she and her dog, Doug, would love to hear from you. Near as I can tell, our new cat has no problem with appliance sounds of any kind. Even when I hum Khatchaturian's "Sabre Dance" to my KitchenAid stand mixer.
