This Monday, March 12th, in honor the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts and the 95th anniversary of Girl Scout cookies, I will eat an entire carton of Thin Mints. Sure, I could do more. I could eat two cartons. But I won't. Instead, I'll buy an extra for the Scout's Operation Cookie Drop.
There's just one problem. I always buy a carton the very first day I encounter the kids outside the supermarket. Next trip, I might even buy another. But that's it. I can only buy so many. But then because I am a complete softie I feel terrible turning them down on subsequent market trips. So I made a suggestion to Girl Scouts of Western Washington's Stefanie Ellis.
Why not offer a big "I bought Girl Scout cookies" button?
I was pretty proud of the idea. They like it well enough to be strongly considering it for next year. How about that? And what's more, in return for my suggestion they've promised to place a box of Thin Mints on my grave every year in perpetuity.* So I've got that going for me. Which is nice ...
I've also suggested that the Girl Scouts bring out garlic cookies for next year's outing. Stefanie said she'd get back to me on that one.
Free Girl Scout cookie ice cream
Molly Moon, a good old Girl Scout her own self, will offer free kid-size scoops of Girl Scout cookie ice cream all day on the 100th anniversary, March 12 at the Downtown, Wallingford, Queen Anne and Capitol Hill stores.
*I just made that up. They said no such thing.
