It's Lunar New Year. The celebration of Year of the Dog is now through March 2.
Food is a big part of Lunar NY celebrations, and today there are more resources than ever to teach you how to prepare it. Naturally, Nancy the Mom couldn't help but talk up her son's Asian cooking abilities.
"He's 19 and already a great cook," she brags. I've never eaten Nate's cooking, but going by the dinner pictured above, it looks like he knows what he's doing. Nance says he's learned a lot from an online couple, Steph and Chris. Chris is an American expat living in Shenzhen, China with his Guongzhou-born girlfriend Steph.
Every Tuesday they post a new cooking video on their Chinese Food Demystified Youtube channel. If you're at all interested in learning Chinese cooking, these videos are a must. Here's their video on that Mouthwatering Chicken dish pictured up top.
Two of Nancy's favorite cookbooks are Grace Young's Stir-Frying to the Sky's Edge and The Breath of a Wok. For Vietnamese cooking I love all of Andrea Nguyen's books and her vietworldkitchen blog. Both Grace and Andrea often have videos on their websites. Seattle writer Hsiao-Ching Chou's recently published Chinese Soul Food is full of good recipes, straightforwardly explained.
I've found lots of useful info and recipes at Appetite for China. And Mandy Lee's wonderful Lady and Pups: An Angry Food Blog is a must. Hilarious writing, beautiful photos and great, great recipes. Nancy and I are eagerly awaiting her upcoming cookbook. For Korean cooking try Maangchi, described by the NY Times as the Korean Julia Child.
Good health and prosperity to you. Now, let's eat!
