Writers Create Community In Lewis County

A very nice docent

The members of the Lewis County Writers Guild meet every Friday at a coffeehouse in downtown Centralia. They welcome everyone who's interested in sharing their work.

Writing can be a lonely activity, so finding a group of supportive people is important.

That's what Pat Thompson thought when he joined the group, after retiring and moving to Lewis County from Los Angeles. He had never written anything before, but he didn't let that stop him.

Wayne Wallace was another writing newbie when he joined the group. Wallace is a lifelong resident of Lewis County, and his stories about growing up in Napavine keep his compatriots laughing.

Recently, the group made a forray into spreading its encouragement to a wider audience, sponsoring the Southwest Washington Writers Conference at Centralia College. Proceeds from the event went to support scholarships to the college.

KNKX producer Geoffrey Redick talked with Thompson and Wallace before a recent meeting.
