Portland is launching an investigation into the ride-hailing company Uber in response to allegations reported by the New York Times last week.

The paper reported Uber used a software program called Greyball to identify and then deceive regulators in Portland and cities around the world.

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler said Monday the city needs to know if Uber has continued to use the Greyball program.

Portland's jazz scene suffered a major loss to ring in the New Year. Jimmy Makarounis, the longtime owner of famed Portland jazz venue Jimmy Mak's, has died after a prolonged battle with cancer.

His death comes days after Jimmy Mak's closed down so Makarounis could focus on his treatment.

A Portland, Ore., demonstration against President-elect Donald Trump included a group of people who engaged in "criminal and dangerous behavior," authorities say, leading police to declare the Thursday night gathering a riot.

Some protesters smashed windows, lit a dumpster on fire, threw objects at police and lit firecrackers, according to The Associated Press.

Police say they responded with non-lethal munitions fired into the crowd, and that 26 people were arrested. The AP has more from the scene:

Portlanders Demand Action On Heavy Metal Air Pollution

Hundreds of people crowded into Cleveland High School Tuesday night with questions, concerns and demands for officials addressing Portland's air pollution.

The 13th Annual PDX Jazz Festival takes place in Portland, OR, February 18-28 with a special focus on the music and associations of John Coltrane, who would have been 90 years old in 2016.  

A Portland, Ore., resident was arrested Tuesday on charges of conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists. The FBI alleges that Reaz Qadir Khan, 48, gave money and advice to a man involved in a deadly 2009 suicide bomb attack on the headquarters of Pakistan's intelligence service in Lahore.

The attack resulted in an estimated 30 deaths and 300 injuries. Khan, a naturalized U.S. citizen, could face a maximum sentence of life in prison if he is found guilty. FBI agents arrested him at his home Tuesday morning.
