Before the Seahawks, Mariners, Sounders FC, and even the Sonics, there was one big spectator sport that captivated Seattle: hydroplane racing. The Seafair tradition continues this weekend on Lake Washington.

In celebration of the Seattle summer staple, we are bringing back a piece KPLU reporter Gary Crawford did three years ago. Crawford talks with hydroplane racing legends Bill Wurster and 11-time Gold Cup Champion Chip Hanauer. This piece from our “Tourist in Your Own Town” series originally aired on August 1, 2013.
