Part 2 of The Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra's concert of the music of Horace Silver will air today on Jazz Northwest.

Pianist and composer Horace Silver composed dozens of tunes popularized by his own groups on more than 40 albums over six decades. Many of his compositions have become jazz standards, and Michael Brockman assembled a concert program of "pieces of Silver" which have been arranged for big band.

Jim Knapp was an influential musician, teacher, mentor and friend to many on the Seattle Jazz scene almost from his arrival in Seattle in 1969. After a long and fruitful career, Jim Knapp passed away on November 13.

Releases include the last album to be issued by the Jim Knapp Orchestra, plus The Westerlies, Phil Parisot, and Tad Britton.

The recent discovery and issue of radio broadcasts by Brazilian guitarist Bola Sete's has stirred enthusiasm from coast to coast. The three-CD set includes music from six live radio shows from the Penthouse in Seattle from 1966 to 1968. Several selections from 1966 will air on today's episode of Jazz Northwest.
