WSU fires head football coach Paul Wulff

Paul Wulff is out of his job as head football coach at Washington State University.

When Paul Wulff was hired at Washington State University as head coach of the Cougar football team four years ago, he walked into a program that was in shambles.

He leaves the program now with the thanks of Athletic Director Bill Moos for helping to rebuild the program’s foundation, but in the end that wasn’t enough for Wulff to keep his job.

Moos says the Athletics program is at a critical juncture in that the current fundraising goal is about $80 million to continue improvements to Martin Stadium and football facilities:

“It’s my plan and my hope to bring some energy into that fan base, and provide a spark by changing leadership, and that primarily was the reason for the change that I made,” Moos said.

Moos called Wulff a wonderful man who had done a lot for WSU, and he said the decision to change coaches was an extremely difficult one.

The process to replace Paul Wulff gets underway right away at Washington State.
