Roundup of regional 9/11 Anniversary ceremonies, memorials

Here are some of the events surrounding the remembrance of 9/11 in the Seattle/Tacoma area. Please feel free to add your own in the comments below.

Seattle:

  • 10th Anniversary 9-11 Memorial Stairclimb - Seattle Fire Fighters Union Local 27
    Location: 601 Union St., Two Union Square, Seattle Building
    Date: Sunday, September 11, 2011, from 8:00 to 11:00 am
    Sign-in at 8:00, climb begins at 9:30
    Price: $40, all proceeds go to New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund
    What/Other: Climbers are invited to walk up 55 flights or do the building twice to go up 100 flights of stairs. Each participant will wear a picture of one of the 343 New York City Fire Fighters or one of the 61 Police Officers who perished on Sept. 11, 2001
  • W: 9/11 Ten Years Later – Community Reflection and Dialogue
    Who: Event hosts – OneAmerica, Council on American-Islamic Relations-Washington (CAIR-WA), and Somali Community Services Coalition (SCSC)
    Panelists & facilitators – OneAmerica Executive Director Pramila Jayapal; CAIR-WA Executive Director Arsalan Bukhari; SCSC Executive Director Ahmed Jama; Hardeep Singh Rekhi, a civil rights and employment attorney; Asian Counseling & Referral Service Executive Director Diane Narasaki; and former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington John McKay (invited)

  • 9/11 Memorial Concert - Cantaré Vocal Ensemble in association with Sammmaish Symphony Orchestra
    Location: 4152 42nd Ave. S.W. (West Seattle)
    Date: Sunday, September 11, 2011, at 3 PM
    Price: $25, portion of proceeds go to benefit Twin Towers Orphan Fund
    What/other: To honor the 3,000 victims, survivors and countless heroes of 9/11
  • One: The Event”, make the shift from fear to love - One Becoming One
    Location: Memorial Stadium, Seattle Center
    Date: Sunday, September 11, 2011; doors open from 12 PM - 7 PM, “global synchronized moment of love” at 3:46 PM
    Price: Free, but donations welcomed
  • 10+Seattle A 9/11 Day of Reflection at Seattle Center
    Location: International Fountain Mall, Seattle Center
    Info: “… turn our thoughts and hearts toward humanity’s greatest strength – compassion. There will be no speeches or presentations, but simply shared moments of remembrance, resilience, empathy, compassion, healing and community.”
    Date: September 11, 2011, at 5-8 am (Quiet reflection and meditation) and 8-10 pm (Open gathering and Interaction)
    Price: Free
  • Remembering 9/11 at the Log House Museum
    Location: 3003 61st Ave. SW
    Date: Sunday, September 11, 2011, from 12 to 7 PM
    Price: Admission to museum is suggested donation
    What/Other: 9/11 exhibit at the museum and, pending permission from the Seattle Parks Department, a candlelit vigil at 7 pm at the Alki Statue of Liberty Plaza

Tacoma:

  • Remembering 9/11 ceremony - Tacoma Fire Department
    Location: the Tacoma Firefighters Memorial at 3301 Ruston Way
    Date: Sunday, September 11, 2011, at 9:30 AM
    Price: Free, but accepting donations for Pierce County Emergency Food Network (please bring non-perishable foods)

Federal Way:

  • Moments of Silence

    5:46 a.m. - American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into WTC North Tower
    6:03 a.m. - United Airlines flight 175 crashed into WTC South Tower
    6:37 a.m. - American Airlines Flight 77 flew into the Pentagon
    6:59 a.m. - Tower 2 (South Tower) Collapsed
    7:03 a.m. - United Airlines Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville, PA
    7:28 a.m. - Tower 1 (North Tower) collapsed
