Heading to the ballot: 3 state initiatives turn in signatures

Three groups seeking to get initiatives on this year's ballot appear to have plenty of signatures to qualify.

Supporters of the three plans brought hundreds of thousands of signatures to Olympia on Friday. Each needs about 241,000 valid signatures, and the groups reported having more than 325,000. A liquor privatization plan supported by Costco brought 354,000 signatures even though supporters only had a few weeks to collect them.

Initiative activist Tim Eyman submitted signatures for his plan to limit how the state can set highway tolls. Another group is pushing a proposal to re-instate background checks for long-term care workers.

An initiative to legalize marijuana appears to have fallen short in its signature collection while another one to require larger chicken cages was abandoned due to a national effort on the issue.
