Since 2005, KNKX's School of Jazz has provided mentorship, learning and performance opportunities to Western Washington middle school, high school and college jazz students. A cornerstone of the station's signature community outreach program, it has directly impacted thousands of jazz students, band directors and professional musicians. KNKX Student DJ Ben McCall


Eighteen year-old Ben McCall, who recently graduated Stadium High School is KNKX’s guest DJ on August 2 from 8-9pm on Evening Jazz. He will be attending Gonzaga University in the Fall.    

Which instrument do you play and why?
I play the trombone, drums and piano because music is my passion and I feel that the more
I know about it (the more instruments I play), the better I am as a whole.

What’s your all-time favorite jazz piece?
There are so many, but my favorite jazz song is Armando’s Rhumba by Chick Corea.

Who is your jazz hero?
Louis Armstrong.
