Jazz LIVE at Marine View featuring the Greta Matassa Quintet

Next up at the monthly concert series Jazz LIVE at Marine View is Greta Matassa (www.gretamatassa.com), one of the most talented singers working in jazz today. She has been voted “Northwest Vocalist of the Year” by Earshot Jazz 8 times in 15 years! She was voted again vocalist of the year in 2021 and honored with a lifetime achievement award and inducted into the Earshot Jazz Hall of Fame in 2014. She has recorded 11 CDs and her latest release, Portrait, has received rave reviews. Her decision to start teaching was probably her greatest contribution to the future of the genre she loves so much. Over the last 20 years Greta has become one of the most unique and respected educators in the field today. She continues to offer individual lessons and mentorships as well as student bases in Seattle, Alaska, Hawaii, Chicago, New York and Japan.

Some reviews and quotes:

“One of the best jazz vocalists we have to boast about these days” (bassist John Clayton)

“Purists will argue there will never be another Ella or Billie. These cats obviously have never heard Greta Matassa!” (Seattle Times)

“We ALL wish we could sing like Greta!” (Portland vocalist Rebecca Kilgore)

“There are few vocalists who send chills up my spine, but Greta sure does. What a joy to accompany her; she makes me want to be a better musician.” (LA pianist Josh Nelson)

“Her scatting is as confident, nimble and energetic as Ella’s and her phrasing is hip like Nancy Wilson’s.” (Earshot Jazz)

“Greta Matassa, soulful, soul-filled, pocket diva, groove queen, scats like nobody’s business! She is the real deal, baby!” (Atlanta vocalist Carmen Bradford)

It is only fitting that Greta has the finest musicians in the region to accompany her. Joining her for her Marine View appearance is pianist David Lee Joyner, bassist Clipper Anderson, drummer Mark Ivester and saxophonist Alexey Nikolaev. Don’t miss an outstanding evening of jazz in the beautiful confines of Marine View.
