Discover Iverson Spit Waterfront Preserve

On July 8, Sound Water Stewards present “Discover Iverson Spit Waterfront Preserve” with interactive displays at Iverson Preserve, an Island County park and one of the few Camano parks with a sandy beach. The event showcases what nature has to share: sand shrimp, clams, driftwood, Madrone trees, eagles, herons and more. Participants can discover what makes the holes in the sand, learn about native and invasive species, participate in a beach litter pickup, or learn to identify and report invasive green crab molts, wander the trails (including Hobbit Trail) or ask questions about the heritage and creation of the park.

The fun, free and family-friendly event occurs 11 am to 2 pm on Saturday, July 8 at 3 Iverson Road on Camano Island. Give-aways: Youth receive a magnifying glass (to look closer at holes in the sand, beach hoppers, sea grass and tree leaves), a Junior Steward booklet and a Beach Etiquette bookmark.

Sponsored by Sound Water Stewards for the community. Stewards are trained volunteers working in and around Island County for a healthy, sustainable marine environment through education, science, and stewardship, motivated by a vision of a healthy marine environment as defined by diverse natural ecosystems and sustainable human communities.
