Grocery workers and their employers have reached a tentative agreement after lengthy contract talks over the weekend. This means shoppers no longer have to worry about a pre-Thanksgiving strike at the four big chains: QFC, Fred Meyer, Safeway and Albertsons.
Negotiations that had been scheduled for Thursday and Friday continued till nearly midnight Saturday. The United Food and Commercial Workers union says the new contract offer will be presented to their members over the next few days, with a vote likely next week.
The union is not providing details on the offer until members have seen it. The last offer was rejected by a resounding 94% of the union in a strike authorization vote. Their contract covers 25,000 grocery store workers throughout the region.
