The new law will allow colleges and day cares to decide whether they want concealed weapons on their premises; it will also extend to public areas of airport terminals.

Legal guns are a reality for police, especially in states with open-carry or concealed-carry laws. But there's no consistent guidance for either gun owners or police on how to react to such weapons.

"Something really profound has changed in the way that we use guns," journalist Evan Osnos says. He estimates that 13 million people are licensed to carry a concealed gun in America.
