The18th Annual Latin Grammy Awards ceremony takes place on Thursday November 16 in Las Vegas. This week on Saturday Jazz Caliente, we'll sample the albums nominated for the Latin Grammy's Best Latin Jazz Album, and one that's in the Best Instrumental Album category.
The idea for separate awards for Latin music first came about in 1989, when a group of producers and songwriters felt that the existing Grammy categories were inadequate for recognizing the variety of Latin music throughout the world. They petitioned The Recording Academy and the first Latin Grammy ceremony was held in 2000.
