Axiom Quartet Live At Tula's

The Axiom Quartet will be featured this week on Jazz Northwest.  The quartet was formed in 2004 to bring together the talents of saxophonist Alexey Nikolaev, pianist and composer John Hansen, Michael Glynn on bass and Phil Parisot on drums. Axiom has been playing a regular monthly gig at Tula's and has built a strong library of original compositions and arrangements. This performance recorded at Tula's last month is a good sampling of their variety of music.

Alexey Nikolaev was born in Russia and received his musical education there. He's been living in Seattle since 2000 and has taught at Central Washington University and Edmonds Community College.  John Hansen, Michael Glynn and Phil Parisot have worked together as a rhythm section in several Seattle bands in addition to Axiom.

Jim has been a fixture on Seattle radio since 1961. He was the host of Jazz After Hours on Public Radio International from 1984-2014. Currently Jim has been producing Jazz Northwest for KNKX since 1988. This weekly program focuses on the regional jazz scene and frequently includes performances Jim records on location for Jazz Northwest.
