Jim Knapp

Jim Knapp was an influential musician, teacher, mentor and friend to many on the Seattle Jazz scene almost from his arrival in Seattle in 1969. After a long and fruitful career, Jim Knapp passed away on November 13.

He was associated with Cornish College for 26 years and developed the jazz program there. He formed the Composers and Improvisors Orchestra and brought many national and international artists to perform original music with the CIO. He later led the Jim Knapp Orchestra in many concerts from small jazz clubs to festival stages. This week's Jazz Northwest will be wholly devoted to his original music from CDs and concerts.

Jim has been a fixture on Seattle radio since 1961. He was the host of Jazz After Hours on Public Radio International from 1984-2014. Currently Jim has been producing Jazz Northwest for KNKX since 1988. This weekly program focuses on the regional jazz scene and frequently includes performances Jim records on location for Jazz Northwest.
