COUPEVILLE, Wash. — The Island County prosecutor says there's not enough evidence to charge Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon who was accused of taking a mistress on official travel.
Gregory Banks was asked to review the Washington State Patrol investigation. He said Wednesday he considered misappropriation and falsification of accounts, deceptive taking of county property, and official misconduct. Banks says there's insufficient evidence to justify criminal charges.
Banks did not consider possible non-criminal violations of campaign finance and public disclosure laws.
Reardon did not give a statement to investigators. Reardon's attorney, John Wolfe, said his client committed no crimes.
A woman who told reporters she had a six-year affair with Reardon estimated he spent at least $1,500 of taxpayer money on her when she accompanied him on official trips.
