Goodbye drizzle: Spring-like winter weekend in store

Several days of drizzle are giving way to a pleasant--and unseasonably warm--weekend.

The best day for outdoor plans should be Saturday, says KPLU weather expert Cliff Mass, a professor of atmospheric sciences at the University of Washington.

By Sunday, gray clouds will be working their way back across western Washington, although he sees no rain likely before Monday. Then, next week, some Pacific fronts will bring back the showers.

Even though drizzle seems like the signature of Puget Sound life, it's unusual in winter, as Mass explains in his weekly weather science discussion (click "listen" above), and on his blog.

(If you live in the north Puget Sound area, you can catch Mass tomorrow for a lecture giving his view of climate change and its impacts. That's Saturday at 9am, in Oak Harbor, as part of a day-long weather eventsponsored by WSU.)
