The New Cool: Get Grooving for Christmas

Merry Christmas to you, New Cool listener! Santa has dropped off a few modern jazz Christmas tunes for The New Cool this week, so tune in and enjoy as you scramble to finish all your pre-Christmas shopping, wrapping, cooking and (hopefully) relaxing.

You'll hear a 2014 recording of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" from keyboardist Robert Glasper and his singing buddy Doobie Powell on the show this week. We'll also get into some Hammond organ-powered holiday grooves with Big Boss Man, Samuele Pagliarani, Robert Walter, and The Jive Turkeys.

Bonus "stocking stuffers" include the new Glasper supergroup R+R=Now, and exclusive studio session performances from trumpeters Christian Scott and Terence Blanchard.

Finally, Sammy Miller & the Congregation have just released a new single. "Everyday is Christmas Day" is joyful pop-jazz in a Billy Joel/Ben Folds mold, featuring solos from trumpeter Alfonso Horne and the Congregation's new guitarist Molly Miller. You'll hear it Saturday on the show, and here's the fun video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncjOU5W69c8

It's been a wild year. Thank you for being a part of our New Cool community, and keep listening to hear what new ideas today's top jazz musicians will explore in 2019! Stay in touch and connect to the New Cool fan page on Facebook to get the latest news on the show, the music, and upcoming live performances around Puget Sound.

Stay cool!

The New Cool airs Saturdays from 3 to 5pm, hosted by Abe Beeson and produced by KNKX Public Radio in Seattle, Wash.
