Vancouver International Jazz Festival presents Cécile McLorin Salvant and GoGo Penguin

Vancouver International Jazz Festival presents Cécile McLorin Salvant and GoGo Penguin

This year’s Vancouver International Jazz Festival will take place from June 24 – July 3, 2022. As part of the lineup, they've announced these shows:

Cécile McLorin Salvant - June 27, 7 p.m. at The Vancouver Playhouse Tickets begin at $52.50
Since winning the Thelonious Monk competition in 2010, vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant has been blazing trails in jazz and art music, picking up multiple Grammys and a MacArthur Fellowship along the way. But after five critically acclaimed releases, Ghost Song (her new release and Nonesuch debut) immediately occupies a world of its own. A compact, cyclical, immersive suite of songs populated by distinct spiritual characters, Ghost Song bears all the signatures of a McLorin Salvant project—thoroughly considered, carefully rendered, and absolute in its cohesion—while also being marked by the assured confidence of a once-in-a-generation artist stepping fully into her potential.

GoGo Penguin - June 28, 7 p.m. at The Vancouver Playhouse Tickets begin at $36.50
Manchester-based Blue Note recording artists GoGo Penguin’s skittering break-beats, powerful sub-bass, telepathic interplay, and penchant for anthemic melody “recall the intricacy of Aphex Twin or Four Tet” (The 4O5). Electrifying live performers, pianist Chris Illingworth, bassist Nick Blacka, and drummer Jon Scott channel electronic and club culture atmospheres alongside influences from jazz, rock and 20th century minimalism to create music that flows from the dancefloor to meditative inner-worlds.

Vancouver Playhouse
07:00 PM - 09:00 PM, every day through Jun 28, 2022.
