Highway 99 All-Stars – For 15 years, the award winning Highway 99 Blues Club was known as one of the best juke joints in the country; featuring the best in blues, Americana, roots and soul music. At the end of 2018 they lost their lease and the club was closed. From the very beginning, Founder Steve Sarkowsky and Owner Ed Maloney, created the Highway 99 All-Stars as a showcase for some of the best players in the region. This super-group of artists became well known for their live shows and rotating cast of players. While the names sometimes change, the idea behind the band does not. The Highway 99 All-Stars provide a stirring mix of music and talent not likely to be seen together in their various line ups throughout the years. The shows were typically sold out, the band has been featured at Bumbershoot and other regional festivals and we are bringing them back for this one night. The line-up this time proves that there is a deep well of talent and this show will swing with deep rooted blues and more.
The band this time will feature: Dan Berkery, guitar/vocals, from Portland’s Rose City Kings; Kim Field, longtime harp ace, leader of the Mighty Titans of Tone and author of Harmonicas, Harps and Heavy Breathers; Randy Oxford, the “bone man”, leader of his own band and the longtime jam host on the legendary rhythm and blues cruises ; Robin Moxey – guitarist/vocals currently a member of Playing for Change band; Polly O’Keary, bass and vocals, leader of Polly O’Keary & the Rhythm Method and winner of numerous Washington Blues Society best of blues awards. On drums is the founder of Highway 99 Blues club, Steve Sarkowsky. Steve is currently playing with Big Road Blues and the Fabulous Roofshakers and was the 2017 recipient of the Keeping the Blues Alive award from the prestigious International Blues Foundation, Memphis TN. Producing all of this and your ring leader for the evening will be Ed Maloney, the longtime proprietor of Highway 99 Blues Club and founder/producer of Blue Velvet Entertainment.
