Welcome the Vietnamese Lunar New Year and 2026’s Year of the Horse at Tết in Seattle – Vietnamese Lunar New Year: a festival celebrating its 30th Anniversary on Saturday, February 14 and Sunday, February 15 at Seattle Center Armory Food & Event Hall and Fisher Pavilion.
This free, multi-generational event brings together the regional community to celebrate rich Vietnamese heritage through art, food, music, and traditional and contemporary expressions. This year’s festival is filled with live entertainment all weekend, including headline performances by singers Hồ Lệ Thu (Saturday) and Trúc Linh &Trúc Lam (Sunday). There will also be six lion dances scheduled throughout the festival, some with firecrackers. Additional activities include dance workshops, a Áo Dài Fashion Show, a kids’ Tết zone full of activities, and a Tết in Seattle Community Art Gallery celebrating this year’s theme, Steadfast Warmth, in honor of the Year of the Horse.
Vietnamese cuisine is always a highlight of the festival! There will be delicious cultural foods from a large selection of local food vendors, a food passport, kids and adult eating competitions, and a “Bánh Tết” (sticky rice cake) wrapping competition on both days for all ages.
Lastly, the annual Health Fair will return to Tết this year. There will be numerous resources and services for all ages, including free vaccines, health education, screenings for vision and bone density, plus much more.
The dynamic two-day event is produced by Tết in Seattle (TIS), a volunteer-based community organization, that honors the culture of Vietnamese and Vietnamese Americans in the Pacific Northwest.
Tết in Seattle was formed 30 years ago, in 1996, by four Vietnamese organizations invested in celebrating and preserving traditional Vietnamese culture in the Seattle community. The groups hoped to host an event which would unite the Vietnamese community and introduce that community to the greater Seattle area. Observance of the Lunar New Year, Tết Nguyên Đán, presented the perfect opportunity to do so.
Tết occurs on the first day of the Lunar New Year, typically in late January or early February, and is celebrated for three to five days. During this period, families reunite, put aside the past year’s struggles, and pray for blessings in the year to come. Homes are cleaned, fresh clothes are donned, and streets are decorated in preparation for Tết. In every home, altars are set up to welcome ancestors with a full spread of Vietnamese dishes unique to Tết, such as banh tết, banh chung, and more.
