The Washington Wind Symphony presents "Unending Stream of Life"

Join the Washington Wind Symphony as we perform our program "Unending Stream of Life" at the Redmond Performing Arts Center. Our music director, Jacob Scherr, has created an emotional, thought-provoking program of beautiful music for your listening pleasure. You'll hear:

* Early Light, by Carol Brenner -- This work was composed in 1995 to pay homage to our national anthem. An avid baseball fan since her childhood, Brenner drew upon her feelings of happy anticipation at hearing the anthem played before ball games. Listen for the slapstick near the end, echoing the crack of a baseball bat on a long home run.

* Unending Stream of Life, by David Maslanka -- This ever-flowing, seven-movement composition is based on variations of the popular hymn "All Creatures of Our God and King" by William Henry Draper. Maslanka says he was inspired by Thich Nhat Hanh, a Buddhist monk and prolific author whose writings include, "We are life. We are inextinguishable!"

* Radiant Joy, by Steven Bryant -- Literally intended to emote joy and good vibes (Bryant scores a nod to the vibraphone), this piece features a catchy, rhythmic pulse that is guaranteed to lift your spirit. Some music critics have suggested its woodwind harmonics are reminiscent of the language of ‘70s/80s funk/jazz/fusion.

* C.A.L.M., by Jessica McCutchen -- Be part of the first audience to hear the world premier of a beautiful work by our very own pianist! A tribute to her mother, Jessica's original composition tugs at your heartstrings by weaving wonderful melodic lines among the brass and woodwinds.

* Second Suite in F for Military Band, by Gustav Holst -- A perennial favorite of wind band lovers, Holst's popular suite premiered 100 years ago this past June at Royal Albert Hall in London. The opening movement's driving beat supports a warming euphonium solo followed by cascading brass and woodwind harmonies. Movements II and III offer delightful melancholy and percussive contrasts to the first. By the end of the fourth movement, Fantasia on the ‘Dargason,' you'll be whistling along with the flute section.

This is a program you can't hear anywhere else! So come celebrate life by experiencing the heart-warming sound of live, instrumental music from your comfortable seat in the Redmond Performing Arts Center. We can't wait to play for you!
