SRJO: Ray Charles & Quincy Jones on Jackson Street - March 1-2
SRJO is joined by special guests Stephen Newby (baritone voice) and Joe Doria (Hammond B-3 organ), to celebrate the swinging Seattle legacy of Ray Charles and Quincy Jones, with a salute to the groundbreaking jazz of the 1940s on Seattle's Jackson Street, where Ray and Quincy both got their start. Selections include early jazz works by both Ray and Quincy for their own big bands, plus pieces drawn from the hit (and very hip) 1961 album "Genius + Soul = Jazz," a collaboration between the two Seattle jazz titans who each became international music icons.
