Seattle Book launch for Puyallup Tribe Leader Ramona Bennett Bill
A lifelong activist and former Puyallup Tribal Chair, Ramona Bennett Bill led the successful takeover of Cascadia Juvenile Center in Tacoma in the 1970s. Her book provides eyewitness accounts of historic turning points in the Native American movement, from Northwest fishing rights battles and the occupation of Fort Lawton in Seattle, to confrontations at Wounded Knee, Alcatraz, and the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs. A strong feminist, Bennett Bill also led efforts to protect Native children from being robbed of their families and culture.
