Early Music Series: Music of Monticello's Black fiddlers
Early Music Access Project: Benjamin Hunter and David McCormick perform music of Monticello's Black fiddlers.
Violinist/fiddlers David McCormick and Benjamin Hunter present some of the rich musical offerings that would have been heard at founding father Thomas Jefferson’s forced labor plantation at Monticello, near Charlottesville, Virginia. You’ll hear music that could have been played by Eston Hemings, the once-enslaved son of Sally Hemings and Thomas Jefferson.
This concert is brought to us by the Early Music Access Project, which envisions a world where the richness of early music inspires and connects people across diverse communities. When artists, audiences, and stories converge at the center of the creative process, we share ownership of musical experiences, break down traditional hierarchies, empower underrepresented voices, and celebrate the contributions of every participant.
We open for brunch at 10am. Music at 3:30. Restaurant and bar available during this special event series. View our menu at blackandtanhall.com/menu.
