Seattle prepares for largest ever Lunar New Year celebration

Asian American communities have always celebrated the Lunar New Year. However, 2025 marks the first time Washingtonians are celebrating it as a legislatively recognized state holiday.

An annual Lunar New Year Celebration has been hosted in the Chinatown-International District by the neighborhood’s Business Improvement Area since 1994. This year’s celebration happens on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
