Kitsap Teachers Reach Deal, Seattle Teachers Undecided

The school year will start on time for students in south Kitsap County after teachers overwhelmingly approved a new three-year contract on Tuesday.

The new agreement will mean smaller class sizes in both elementary and secondary grades. It will also eliminate classes that combine two grade levels in one room.

Meanwhile, teachers in Seattle and in Snoqualmie are meeting Tuesday afternoon to determine whether school will start on Wednesday, as scheduled.

Seattle teachers will vote on a tentative contract agreement.

But after three days of negotiation with a state mediator, Snoqualmie educators and the school district are at a stalemate. Snoqualmie teachers could move to vote to authorize a strike.
