Larsen Wins a Squeaker

Voters havereturned incumbent Democrat Rick Larsen to another term in Congress. With most votes now in, Larsen has defeated Republican challenger John Koster 51% to 49% to retain his 2nd Congressional District seat. After trailing Koster by 1,200 votes election night, continuing counts have trended steadily in Larsen's favor. He's up now by 5,500 votes after Monday's  updates from the Secretary of State's office.

All Eyes on Judicial Battle

With the Larsen-Koster race decided, everyone's watching the heated contest for a state Supreme Court seat. Justice Richard Sanders' lead has narrowed from more than 20,000 to less than 4,000 over Bainbridge Island attorney Charlie Wiggins.  With more than a hundred thousand votes to count in King County - where Wiggins is far outpacing Sanders - the race is a toss-up.  As the Seattle Times reported, the Sanders-Wiggins battle has gotten personal. Wiggins questions the incumbent's ethics, and Sanders calling Wiggins a 'character assassin.'

While the Bear is Out, the Kids Are In

The search continues for the bear that mauled a Gig Harbor woman on Sunday morning. She's recovering after surgery for a lacerated arm and severe bites to her back.  On Monday a black bear was spotted in the woods near the Boys & Girls Club, prompting schools to keep kids indoors for recess. Schools are taking every precaution today, according to the News Tribune, including more buses and monitors to keep kids away from wooded areas adjoining school grounds.
